Contest Considerations – Age of Majority in Canada
When administrating a contest or sweepstakes in Canada, you’ll want to be sure that your official rules and entry form clearly state the minimum age a participant must be to make their entry eligible/legal in Canada.
One way to do so is to restrict entry to only people who have reached the age of majority in their respective province (i.e. the age at which a person is no longer considered to be a minor).
The tricky part is that the age of majority varies from province to province. If you’re a contest administrator, here’s a breakdown that might help:
| Canadian Province | Age of Majority |
| Alberta | 18 |
| British Columbia | 19 |
| Manitoba | 18 |
| New Brunswick | 19 |
| Newfoundland and Labrador | 19 |
| Northwest Territories | 19 |
| Nova Scotia | 19 |
| Nunavut | 19 |
| Ontario | 18 |
| Prince Edward Island | 18 |
| Quebec | 18 |
| Saskatchewan | 18 |
| Yukon | 19 |
