Edelman Recognized as One of the 50 Most Engaged Workplaces™ in Canada

My third day at Edelman and we find out we have been recognized as one of the 50 Most Engaged Workplaces™ in Canada. Wow!  I’m impressed.

A colleague who is a lot smarter than me once said, “the real difference between average companies and highly successful companies is that highly successful companies actually do the things they say they are going to do.”

Every company has a plan for employee engagement, but not many actually implement the ideas.

Introducing BlogLevel and TweetLevel

Over the past three years when in rooms talking to clients about influence and the value of engagement in the social space, the same question comes up again and again: how do we know who is important? How do we know we are connecting with people with the power to influence and shape the conversation? Read more »

Hurry Hard: Corporate Practice Takes to the Ice!

On April 27, members of Toronto’s Corporate and Public Affairs practice traded in their blazers and heels for brooms and slider shoes at the Royal Canadian Curling Club. With only two players who’d ever hit the rink before, standing firm on the ice proved to be the first challenge for the group at this year’s team offsite.  Armed with basic instructions, a competitive spirit, and more sarcastic barbs than a Comedy Central celebrity roast, players used the event to mark the collective accomplishments of the practice over the last year and gave its players a chance to come together outside the office to learn a popular Canadian sport. A Day Spent In Good Company

This post also appeared on the Good Purpose Blog.

I recently had the opportunity to present Edelman Canada’s Little Give program at ORENDA’s In Good Company CSR conference, which took place in Toronto last week.  The conference brought together thought leaders in the corporate, not-for-profit and academic sectors to explore the evolution of community investment and to share strategies for creating meaningful corporate community partnerships.   I was thrilled to be able to showcase our program as a best-case example of a truly meaningful initiative in the company of other impressive CSR programs from Microsoft Canada, Corel Corporation, L’Oreal Canada and others.

Notre nouvelle adresse made in plateau : 4446 Boulevard St-Laurent, bureau 501. Vous pouvez nous rejoindre en utilisant le même numéro de téléphone général: 514 844-6665

Voici quelques photos de l’espace – très moderne-monochrome-minimaliste !

A Sneak Peek at the New Edelman Montreal Office

It took eight months, over a hundred boxes, a team of professional movers, a super dedicated moving committee, and one day of total office shutdown (which, as you know, for PR is – gasp – not easy), but the Edelman Montreal office has officially moved from its Golden Square Mile location to the Plateau area.

Starting today, you will be able to find us at 4446 Boulevard St-Laurent, office 501. The main phone line still remains the same.

Here’s a sneak peek, but we promise more pictures and details as soon as the place is up and running!

My Tricks for Staying Organized & Efficient

It’s taken about six months for my friends and family to understand that 5pm by no means signals the end of my workday. Far from it. As many PR professionals will attest, this is not a “9 to 5” industry.

Working on short timelines, last-minute requests and crisis situations doesn’t lend itself to consistent hours. However, being a bit of an adrenalin junkie, I thrive on the inconsistency!

To mitigate my appetite for adventure with the organizational requirements of an office job, I rely on a few tricks. Hopefully, they will help you too.

There’s a High ROI on Team Bonding

I’m currently in Washington DC for a series of meetings. Last night, Emily Lippard took the team to her weekly Zumba class. The experience left us exhilarated and infinitely more bonded than when we started. There’s nothing like an unpretentious dance class to bring together five [already] enthusiastic PR girls.

Edelman places a huge importance on work-life balance. Programs like Living in Color, a $400 yearly fitness allowance and flexible schedules encourage employees to live fulfilling lives outside of their jobs. I couldn’t be more thrilled.

Let it snow, let it snow

The kind of snow that we have a love-hate relationship with has stormed our city, and let us know what large and in charge means.

This is the view from our office on the 19th floor.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

…Or Hanukkah, Rohatsu, Ramadan, Kwanzaa, Yule—even Festivus!  Our Vancouver office has gotten the full holiday treatment this year thanks to our resident tall elf, Julia Cameron, who was practically vibrating with excitement when December 1st finally arrived. She and her helper elves did an amazing job getting our space into the holiday spirit, and we’d like to share it with all of you.

Man of Movember Montréal

Daniel Christos wins Man of Movember for Montreal!

1st November marked the start of the month now known to many as Movember. The rules are simple, clean shaven on the 1st, grow a moustache all month and collect money for the Cancer Foundation in aid of prostate cancer. After spending the entire month with an itchy face, receiving shocked looks from my co-workers around the Edelman Montreal office (not to mention trying my best to look respectable in case a client was present) and receiving some looks of fear in the street, every man in the world gathers at the Gala Parté in their major city to celebrate and show off their upper lip follicles. Montreal’s Gala Parté was held at Le Belmont on St Laurent where approximately 200-300  Mo Bros and Mo Sistas joined together for the night.

Here’s my story, last year I wanted to do something a little outrageous. There are three rules to growing a mo for Movember. Read more »
