Building Ladders to the Top

Last night, I had the pleasure of hosting dinner for 20 women to talk about our careers – our successes, our challenges, and the rules we’ve made for ourselves along the way.

The event was the first of what I hope to be a series under the auspices of GWEN, Edelman’s Global Women’s Executive Network, which is committed to fostering a work environment in which women can reach the most senior ranks within the firm.  A few months ago, we held something internally called Minute Mentoring, and we wanted to share the idea with our clients.  We reached out to some of the women clients who inspire us and whom we felt had something to share with the generation coming behind them.  Each brought a younger woman whose career they’ve taken an interest in.

The “Armano in Vancouver” Meet-up

Edelman’s EVP of Global Innovation & Integration at Edelman Digital, David Armano was in Vancouver last week. Along with all of the official appointments, presentations and interviews that he was shuttled around to (we kept the poor guy busy), we also organized an informal, grass-roots meet-up at Subeez Cafe on Thursday morning for bloggers and industry influencers. About 50 people dropped by for coffee and snacks and the opportunity to ask David questions about the social and digital realm. Read more »

2012 CPRS Toronto ACE Awards – We’ll Take Seven, Please!

On Thursday, April 26 I had the pleasure of joining my wonderful and very talented colleagues at the 2012 CPRS ACE Awards Gala at the Bram & Bluma Appel Salon. In true Edelman fashion, we showed up early to clink our glasses and congratulate each other on the successes of the past year.

Accompanied by some of our clients, we enjoyed a meal while celebrating the creativity and strategic thinking that went into our award-winning programs. By the end of the evening, we had scooped up seven awards (five bronze and two silver). All I can say is that it sure feels good to be recognized for the hard work that we do at Edelman in front of Toronto’s finest PR professionals. Having worked on Cadbury and Maynards I think it appropriate to say that this was one sweeeeeet evening!

Giving a little…

Today is the start of our annual Little Give where, as an agency, we spend 48 continuous hours entirely dedicated to the service of charities. In Vancouver, we select charities based on their focus around children and youth. This often means that we will spend the time in neighbourhoods that aren’t so desirable and learn about issues that are easily forgotten in our day to day work lives. Read more »
