Why Can’t We Vote Online?

On the day of the Ontario municipal elections the following thought crossed my mind. We’ve made a lot of advances in technology and have put a lot of faith in digital security. We do our banking online and make payments through our mobile devices. These are seriously personal transactions with dire consequences if breached. So how come we can’t vote online?
