For the past 25 years, David has provided corporate and financial communications counsel on range of complex mandates, including acute reputational challenges, operational crises, litigation, hostile and friendly takeovers, shareholder activism, restructurings and insolvency proceedings, and management changes, as well as normal course corporate profile building.
He has advised on some of Canada’s largest and/or most high-profile transactions and special situations, including Canadian Pacific’s ongoing $31B acquisition of Kansas City Southern as well as CP’s attempt to acquire Norfolk Southern Corp in 2015 and Onex Corp.’s $5B acquisition of WestJet.
Beyond M&A and special situations, David has advised on a number of complex communications and reputation risk management engagements. In all, he has acquired broad-based industry experience that includes mining, oil & gas, telecom, forest products, consumer packaged goods, sports and entertainment, real estate, health care, construction, power generation and distribution, and biotechnology.
David holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of British Columbia, a Communications Diploma (Broadcast Journalism) from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), where he received the Legislative Press Gallery Award for Excellence in Journalism, and has completed the Canadian Securities Course, with honours. David serves on the Board of Directors of the BCIT Foundation.
